ActiveWorlds Europe and Caligari announce the launch of the Virtual 3D representation of the Titanic, the most known and largest ship on the waves of the new multi-user Internet.

So what exactly is the 3D Titanic? Unlike conventional websites, it’s a place where you can walk around in a virtual body, chat to and wave at your fellow passengers. All you need is a PC and internet connection. Step out of the flat internet and come on board!

Since the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, its magnificently tragic story has been told all over the world by innumerable websites, books and stories. But no form of media has ever been able to really share the experience of walking on the Titanic with other people, interactively and in real time.

That’s why ActiveWorlds Europe decided to create this superb representation of the largest ship ever to sail the waters of the 3D multi-user internet. On boarding the ship, everyone can meet up and interactively share their thoughts, feelings and information on the Titanic itself.

The complete 3D representation has been developed in trueSpace – a technology developed by Caligari, known worldwide for their expertise in professional and consumer modelling software. The multi-user 3D engine was developed by Activeworlds Inc, global leader in this area. The combination of these 2 products offers a revolutionary way of presenting 3D environments. ActiveWorlds Europe’s Emmanuel Asset (France) developed the virtual representation of the Titanic, which sails in one of the company’s 3D multi-user environments. Another developer, Susan Katarzis, created each Avatar (a virtual body that visitors receive) in the style of the 1910s to convey an even more realistic feeling of that period.

The space on the Titanic also offers companies the possibility to share their products or information interactively and in real time with other visitors, including by using stills, video, audio, interactive communication and 2-way connections with existing websites.

Guests are welcome to enter the legendary ship and discover new horizons. The Titanic 3D allows everyone to communicate with other visitors from all around the world in a prestigious and romantic environment. Who knows who you will meet on the Titanic…

The official opening of Titanic 3D was on the 15th of April 2005, with 3,547 entry tickets for VIPs (the maximum capacity of the original ship), of which 100 special tickets have been reserved for the Press.

The Captain and all his crew wish you a pleasant voyage.
